Pretty in Pink

Although it appears to be rather "Fall-ish" outside, we are not quite ready to embrace the burnt orange, bronze and browns that keep flashing across our desks via various design magazines.

We are clinging desperately to the last few days of Summer (Fall doesn't officially begin until Friday) and, in the spirit of not going quietly, we would like to offer this post as a last, bold, summery, "Hoorah!".

Did you know that Honeysuckle is the 2011 Pantone Colour of the year?

While the 2010 color of the year, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, served as an escape for many, Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.

According to the Flower Society, the predominant modern sentiment attached to honeysuckle has changed from ancient times. Today, a gift of honeysuckle represents an expression of happiness.

Pink is a HOT colour for fashion but does it translate to interior design?

If you've ever had the chance to visit our website and peruse our project images you may have noticed that tile (of many shapes and colours) plays a large part in the overall design of "our" rooms.

It's always great to when we can source new products that meet the technical needs of the space, but when they also manage to satisfy our desire for a totally unique statement - well that's when we get really excited.

Get the Look II - Hardware

Finishes are an important detail to consider when pulling a room together.  Mixing finishes can work really well (as it does here with the mix of chrome and brass) if there is a balance and if it makes sense.  For instance, the chrome coffee table base, drapery and door hardware work well with the cool grey and blue tones in the room and reflect the contemporary style of the room while the brass finish of the lamps pick up the accent colour from the cushions and trim.  

Here's a closer look at the fabulous drapery hardware that subtly sparkles at the top of the room.  It might be subtle but finishes the look in a most remarkable way.

Sleek armless slipper chairs and accent pillows for this room were customized with Kelly Wearstler's "Bengal Bazaar" fabric ($264.00/yard) and polished chrome nailheads.  A similar look can be achieved by customizing chairs with Thom Filicia's "Otisco" Ikat at $147.20/yard or with the more budget friendly "Bristow" Ikat from Kravet at $75.20/yard.

A sleek polished stainless steel coffee table (COMO by Nuevo) reflects all of the colours and pattern in this furniture grouping - it almost melts into the centre of the room.
